Theodore “Ted” Ginn Sr. is the longtime head coach of the Glenville High School Tarblooders football and track teams in Cleveland, Ohio, and one of the most influential mentors of student-athletes in the region.

Beginning his career in the Cleveland Public Schools as a security guard at Glenville, he rose to become a celebrated coach, leading Glenville’s track program to six state championships and its football team to historic OHSAA Division IV State Football titles in 2022, 2023, and 2025—the first football championships for a Cleveland Metropolitan School District school.

Ginn has produced 28 NFL players and helped secure countless college scholarships for student-athletes. He has coached in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, founded the Ted Ginn Sr. Foundation Annual Combat Bus Tour to connect inner-city players with major college programs, and helped establish Ginn Academy, an all-boys public high school for at-risk students in Cleveland.

In recognition of his impact, a portion of Gray Avenue on Cleveland’s east side was renamed “Ted Ginn Sr. Avenue.”

A father, coach, and community builder, Ted Ginn Sr. uses sports as a vehicle for discipline, opportunity, and hope for young people across Greater Cleveland.
