Domestic Violence Advocate | Survivor | Community Leader

Laura Cowan is a courageous survivor and dedicated domestic violence advocate whose life’s work is rooted in resilience, healing, and empowering others. After surviving a prolonged period of abuse and captivity alongside her children—a story that later drew national attention and inspired a feature film—Cowan made the decision to rebuild her life and turn her experience into purpose.

Now based in Cleveland, Cowan has become a strong and compassionate voice for survivors of domestic violence throughout Northeast Ohio. She uses her story not for recognition, but as a tool to inspire hope, raise awareness, and help others understand that escape, healing, and restoration are possible.

Through advocacy, outreach, and community engagement, Cowan works to support individuals navigating abusive situations while also educating the public on the realities of domestic violence. She collaborates with local organizations, speaks out to break the silence surrounding abuse, and encourages survivors to reclaim their strength and independence.

Her journey from survival to advocacy continues to impact lives and shift conversations around domestic violence, emphasizing not only awareness, but prevention and long-term healing.
